Based on the knowledge and experience from various national and international school renovation projects including the work within School of the Future, Heike Erhorn-Kluttig from Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics was invited to participate in the Technical Committee of the IEE ZEMEDS project. ZEMEDS is a new project within the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme that aims at promoting the necessary actions to increase the renovation of school buildings in the Mediterranean climate to become nearly zero-energy buildings (NZEB).
A first workshop was held in Barcelona on 9th July 2013 with in total 8 external experts. The technical committee and the ZEMEDS project partners discussed about topics such as the definition of NZEB for renovated schools, the renovation of the building envelope, the upgrade of the building service systems, ventilation and indoor air quality as well as costs and financial support.
Detailed information on the ZEMEDS project is available on the IEE programme website, on the website of the project coordinator Fundació Privada ASCAMM and soon on the ZEMEDS project website. Further cooperation with ZEMEDS is planned for the School of the Future community on BUILD UP.
